THE AUTOTAP LOCK

An essential security upgrade for your car or light truck

The high point of vehicle ownership is at the time of sale.

The low point is following a crash.

There are 20,000 tow-a-ways in America every day.

However crashes are not just “he said — she said” anymore regards auto-fault liability .

Now, 91% of new vehicles include automotive ‘black box’ event data recorders (EDRs) to create and store crash data.

Most motorist’s are still unaware of EDRs, although those that know about them generally support enhancing vehicle and highway safety but oppose using this intrusive technology against them in civil and criminal court cases.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the National Motorists Association (NMA) advocate for fair use of crash data.

Congress passed the Driver’s Privacy Act of 2015 which cites that the vehicle owner or lessee “owns” the data and 17 states have additional EDR privacy statutes.

However, we still need adequate consumer protection, especially following a crash.

Up to this point safeguarding access to crash data has not been possible during the ‘window of opportunity’ to tamper crash data which is following a crash until the data is downloaded by an entity trusted by the Court.

It’s now possible with the online AUTOTAP ™ roadside service to secure access to the download port on the vehicle by using an OBD port lock.

The lock is simple to install either pre-crash or post-crash when the vehicle is impounded or being repaired.

Doing so, empowers the vehicle owner and safeguards against tampering of crash data.

Pre-Crash you can order online and self-install.

Post-Crash you can order online and use expedited shipping to either self-install or have someone install the lock for you.

The AUTOTAPLOCK ™patented method comprises scanning a label having a near field communication (NFC) tag by using a NFC cell phone reader.

The vehicle data items may be stored and accessed from a cloud database, and may include vehicle identification number, license plate data, vehicle registration data, insurance data, an image, vehicle owner’s medical data, vehicle owner’s next-of-kin data, and an emergency contact data.

The method may further include installing or granting permission for a service provider to install a vehicle connector lockout apparatus onto a diagnostic link connector of a vehicle, and establishing a chain of custody link for EDR data via a NFC tag on the vehicle connector lockout apparatus.
